AI and education

Schools were built for a world that is ending. What should children learn when machines can do the homework?

Draft. These are starting points pulled from what Chris has said; Chris to write this in his own words.

Sir Ken Robinson asked in 2006 whether schools kill creativity. Twenty years on, with AI able to write the essay and solve the equation, the question has stopped being rhetorical.

Three ideas I keep coming back to. Robinson’s: that creativity matters as much as literacy and we educate people out of it. The LEGO Foundation’s: that children learn best through play, and that this holds long past nursery. And Simon Squibb’s: that the best thing you can do for a young person is ask what their dream is and help them start, rather than wait for permission.

I run a studio that pays people to be creative for a living, and I have children growing up alongside machines that are better at recall than any of us will ever be. So this is not abstract for me. I will write more here as I work it out.

Speaking, press, juries,
advisory, collaborations.

One address for all of it. I answer myself, usually within a day.
